ドラマは、医学生时代にスポットを当て、ブラック?ジャックが无免许医になった理由をオリジナルストーリーで描く。あるクリスマスの日、9歳の少年时生と、母亲の美都子は爆破事件に巻き込まれ、意识不明の重体に陥る。外科医の本间の大手术により、时生は奇迹的に一命を取りとめるが、美都子は意识不明のままだった。それから15年、医大生となった时生は人工冬眠状态の美都子と地下室で暮らしながら、美都子を目覚めさせる方法を探していた……というストーリー。
